Sequatchie Skies
September 20, 1999

This past Saturday found a few pilots set up at Henson's waiting for a sign in a light tailwind. They saw it when Jamie from Lookout went flying by in the middle of the valley on his way from Whitwell toward Pikeville. Incidentally, someone who knows him should have him contact the TTT membership committee. Steve and Kathy Lee launched shortly thereafter and climbed out quickly to start up the valley. Tom Prouhet launched and flailed valiantly to the field.

I counted five gliders cruising up the middle of the valley at cloudbase or a little lower on my way to Whitwell Sunday, but I arrived in the First Baptist Church of Whitwell LZ just in time to see Sean Christiansen end an extended sled run. It wasn't a gimme, and Mark Furst made the field with little altitude to spare in a particularly sinky cycle. Nevertheless, Steve and Kathy Lee could be heard discussing a landing at Henson's or a longer XC up the valley. More details next week.

The forecast calls for postfrontal conditions after Tuesday bringing clear skies and cooler temps. Winds N Wednesday, NE Thursday, E to S Friday, S to SE Saturday and/or Sunday with increasing cloudiness. Lows in the upper 40s, highs in the low 70s, and warming slightly through the week. See you in the sky!
